At the Ozark Board of Education’s meeting on November 20, members recognized several Ozark High School students for their hard earned accomplishments during the school year.

For the sixth year in a row, the OHS vollyeball team competed in the Class 4 state competition. This year, they came in third. 

In October, the OHS fishing team competed in the Missouri High School Fall Fishing Classic at Lake of the Ozarks, where over 40 schools competed. Ethan VanHorn finished third overall in the team’s inaugural season. Board President Chuck Fugate awarded VanHorn and Dalton Combs certificates. The two will also receive $1,750 in scholarships.

That same month, the OHS varsity cheerleaders placed second at state. Four of its members — Hallie Mayes, Kate Moeller, Grace Stanfield and Sarah-Jane Green — made the All-State team.

Logan Bohannon, Taylor Ortner and Leann Reynolds of the OHS cross country team competed at the state level this year as well.

Cameron Smith, who qualified to swim at the State in the 500 freestyle, was also recognized by Fugate.

However, these students still have steep hurtles to accomplish. It’s either time for many OHS student to try to fit one more SAT in, or time to take it for the first time. In order to get into good schools, they’ll need to stand out amongst scores of their peers across the nation. If last year is any indicator — when about 1.6 million students took the SAT — then these kids have their work cut out for them.

Still, with these extracurricular accomplishments under their belts, there’s little doubt that they’ll be able to handle the competition and excel. Fugate congratulated the students, applauding all for their dedication and hard work that helped them have truly outstanding seasons.
