When recruiters were interviewed about their hiring process, about one-third of them reported that they knew whether or not they were going to hire someone within the first 30 seconds of the interview. Generally speaking, this is due to confidence and sartorial codes.

But if you’re Donald Trump, you may not be hiring an employee for slight more problematic reasons.

The real estate tycoon and Republican primary candidate has, of late, made his stance on Hispanic/Latino individuals very clear, and it isn’t positive at all. Recently, he has made various inflammatory, blanket statements about Latinos and Hispanics. For example, Trump said in a Tweet earlier this summer, “Sadly, the overwhelming amount of crime in our major cities is committed by blacks and Hispanics – a tough subject – must be discussed”.

But oddly enough, approximately 80% of the workers at Trump’s Vegas hotels are Hispanic or Latino, and these employees aren’t taking Trump’s statements lying down.

Latino staff members at Las Vegas Trump hotels have begun protesting, taking to the streets with discontent for the Republican real estate giant.

While the workers at Trump Hotel haven’t unionized yet, the staffers plan to shortly. For their protests, they used Trump’s stance on immigrants as an impetus to organize a majority-Latino workforce to join the Culinary Union, The Guardian reports.

While Trump’s anti-immigration and anti-Latino stance indeed works against the minority group, it has created a kind of momentum and call to action.

“The idea is to draw on the momentum Trump’s campaign has activated within the Latino community,” said Yvanna Cancela, the Culinary Unions political director, to The Guardian.

As reported in The Guardian, the Culinary Union reports that Trump Hotel workers make an average of $3.33 less than workers in other upscale hotels across Las Vegas, such as the Bellagio and Caesar’s Palace.

By joining the Culinary Union, the largest Hispanic organization in Nevada, the employees at Trump Hotel will have a sense of job security, better wages, and ensured healthcare benefits.

Cancela adds, “We are letting people know that right here in their backyard, a group is fighting to make Donald Trump do the right thing.”
