Renewal of Partnership between United Airlines and National Association of Hispanic Journalists
Every day, an average of eight million people fly. Some fly to go on vacation, some for work, and still others are trying to get to conferences or events, much like the members of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).
And there is good news on that front — for the 10th consecutive year, NAHJ and United Airlines have renewed their partnership, the two recently announced.
United Airlines will be the official airline for all of the organization’s special events in 2016.
Included in the 2016 partnership will be platinum level sponsorship of NAHJ’s first-ever convention with the National Association of Black Journalists and sponsorship of the NAHJ/Hispanicize Spanish-language journalism convention. Other regional and local chapter events are also included.
James Olson, United’s senior vice president, said of the move, “2016 is shaping up to be a very exciting year for the NAHJ. We are proud to continue our support of NAHJ initiatives on the national and local levels that elevate diversity in the newsroom and amplify Hispanic voices in the community.”
United Airlines, which began its support of the NAHJ in 2006, operates about 5,000 flights every day, to 342 airports over six continents.
The NAHJ, which was established in 1984, is dedicated to the recognition and professional advancement of Hispanics in the news industry. It is governed by an 18-member board of directors, which consists of executive officers as well as regional directors. They are representative of different geographic regions of the U.S. and the Caribbean. NAHJ, the national office of which is located in Washington, D.C., has about 1,500 members.
Makahlo Medina, the president of NAHJ, said “We are excited that United Airlines continues to believe in NAHJ’s mission and goal of more Lations in American newsrooms.”
