Jane the Virgin Star Brings Confidence Back to Domestic Violence Victims
Jane the Virgin actress Greice Santo is launching a new campaign to help empower traumatized women to feel better about themselves. The Brazilian-born model and actress has teamed up with Bruno Mascolo, founder of the Toni and Guy hair salon chain, to launch a new imitative called “Glam with Greice.”
Hoping to empower them to change their lives for the better, Santo and Mascolo will offer free hair, makeup, and fashion styling to women in need, including victims of domestic violence.
Daily Mail cites that a total of 30 women will receive a full day of pampering during the first event. The women are all part of Ocean Park Community Center (OPCC), a Los Angeles organization supporting less-fortunate community members including homeless women, victims of domestic abuse, and women with physical or mental illness.
Every nine seconds, a woman in the United States becomes the victim of an assault. Santo hopes the makeovers will give these women the boost of confidence they need.
The 23-year-old explained how growing up poor in Brazil has shaped her passion for helping others.
“I always wanted to help women. I found a place that helps battered women and we’ve contacted people there to see if those women would like to join us to be made up and look beautiful. My whole thing is I grew up very poor and with very little and seeing women sometimes they feel so down, they don’t feel pretty and I want to empower women and also make them feel pretty. I feel every woman wants to feel like they are validated. That’s my whole mission and I am very confident that I am going to accomplish that.”
Bruno Mascolo has pledged to provide all the necessary resources to help change the lives of the women participating in the initiative. Mascolo, who opened a London salon in the 1960s with his two older brothers and has since gone on to create an international chain of franchiese, was impressed with Santo’s passion for the project and quickly agreed to help her.
“I think she talks with so much authenticity about what she wants to do and so much humbleness that if people see what we’re doing it will catch on,” he said. “We’re fortunate enough to have salons and academies spread across America so we can touch a lot of people.”
The first “Glam by Greice” event will be held on August 17 at the Toni and Guy Hairdressing Academy in Santa Monica, Los Angeles. The pair hopes to expand the project to other cities across the United States.
